Originally from Chicago, Barbie Diewald received her early training under Kenneth von Heidecke and Sherry Moray at the School of the Chicago Festival Ballet and subsequently trained at Lou Conte Dance Center (Hubbard Street Dance Chicago). She later danced with Midwest Ballet Theatre before receiving her BFA in Theatre and Dance at Millikin University. During her six years in New York City, her work was performed at the Brooklyn Academy of Music (BAM), Movement Research at Judson Church, and The 92nd Street Y. In 2014, she relocated to Northampton to pursue her MFA in dance at Smith College where she is currently a teaching fellow. Recently, she has performed in the work of Jen Polins, Katie Martin, and Rodger Blum, as well as performing repertory in New York with the Merce Cunningham Trust.
